Explanation of Link Reputation?
Don't confuse link popularity with link reputation. Link
reputation is the relationship links have in affecting the search engines perception
of what your site is about. If 1000 web sites link to your web site with the
underlined anchor text being high power radio towers then the search engine will
consider that your site must be an authority on high power radio towers and rank you
higher for this search. There are countless ways to examine link relationships. Each
search engine puts it’s own spin and emphasis on these relationships. For example,
MSN and Hotbot/Inktomi results vary because they evaluate a link to your site
differently (along with many, many other factors). These evaluation
differences include the following: Anchor Text which builds a strong Link Reputation
Directory listings from the DMOZ.org site, Looksmart, Yahoo.com and others Inbound,
outbound, and internal link relationships with the site Links having different IP
addresses. Different Class C's, Class B's, and Class A's... Your links need to
be spread out. Link reputation does have a strong effect on search engine
rankings. It is a big part of the equation that search engines use to
determine Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). These engines include...
Google, Yahoo, Netscape, AOL Search, MSN Search, HotBot, Teoma, FAST/AlltheWeb,
Earthlink.net, Iwon.com, AltaVista, Inktomi based engines, and occasionally Wisenut.
What another web site uses as anchor text can increase the chances of your online
success. If 1000 web sites all say you're web site has information on the
relief of back pain they will believe them. Good link reputation is essential
in obtaining good ranking within the SERP(s).
